SEASON 1987-88 BRIDESMAIDS AGAIN

Finishing second to Scarborough in the Conference in 1986/87, while experiencing the most entertaining football to be played at Underhill for some 15 years, had given us supporters a new hope for the future.

SEASON 1986-87 START BELIEVING

After the best part of 10 years without trophies and just the odd taster of excitement for us long suffering fans, Stanley Flashman and Barry Fry met up to start their Revolution!

RECKLESS RAMBLINGS - THE DAY OF THE LIMO

I have travelled to away games by plane, train, tube, car, bus (open top and public), coach, motorcycle and ferry to watch my club but the invitation of an away game by stretched limousine in the lap of luxury was just too good to refuse.

STEVE BRINKMAN

A midfielder, sadly no longer with us, voted Player of the Year 1980-1 for his outstanding ball skills and pure entertainment value during what were rather lean years for the club.

FA CUP RUN 2006-07

The FA Cup is not a competition frankly that Barnet have excelled in over the years and we have only reached the Fourth Round on two occasions.
I am going to take you back to 2006/7 when we first reached the dizzy heights of Round 4.

SEASON 2004-5 RETURNING TO THE LEAGUE

In 2005-5 League Football returned to Underhill with Barnet playing some of the most exhilarating football since the days of Barry Fry - this time however it was overseen with superb efficiency and organisation skills.

UNDERHILL

So far I have featured numerous heroes of Underhill but now I'll feature Underhill herself? The Theatre of Teams – Barnet Football Club teams.

DENNIS SIGNY

Not only players become legends at a football club – this gentleman was too in my humble opinion. He had an incredible life and our club would have benefited even more had he been part of it for longer.

MICK BODLEY

Involved in two promotions with the club - a centre back oozing class who knew where the goal was too – even his own on occasions!

SEASON 1990-91 INTO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE

In 1991 League football at last came to Underhill for the first time in its history after a season full of tension, thrills, despair, excitement and goals.

ISMAIL YAKUBU

A central defender who nearly made it into a very prestigious list of Barnet players but nonetheless still a very fine servant to our club.

DREAMING OF WEMBLEY - THE FA TROPHY 1972

Will we make the play-offs and then get to Wembley this season? Well,l we haven't been there for 42 years, and I certainly want to go back and soon.

KEVIN DURHAM

Winning promotion to the Football League 1991 was exhilarating, not a care in the Barnet FC world, then something happens to bring everybody associated with the club back to earth.

LINVOY PRIMUS

Linvoy was perhaps the finest centre back to wear Amber and Black over the last 20 years We were fortunate to witness his early development as a player before he successfully made the step up to Premiership level with Portsmouth in 2000.

LEE HODGES

A versatile player who formed exciting partnerships with both Dougie Freedman and Sean Devine – not a bad entry on a CV!

KEITH ALEXANDER

This gentleman was a pioneer in the game and had two seasons at Underhill in that wonderful GM Conference team in the mid eighties

BEN STREVENS

Next in the spotlight is a forward who is the ultimate players player.

PETER BROWN

Next a player who was recognised as a Player of the Year in 1985 not for scoring goals or saving penalties but for sheer 100% input and a big grin!

BOBBY BROWN

Next in the spotlight is a player who spent only two years at Underhill but was a goal-scoring sensation

GREG HEALD

Next a central defender who is still to this day the most expensive player ever purchased by the club. He spent nearly six years at Underhill and captained the side to two play off semi finals

GREAT MATCHES - BLACKPOOL 2000/01

BARNET 7-0 BLACKPOOL
League Division 3 - Saturday 11th November 2000
Attendance: 2,520

SIMON KING

A superb defender who spent four season as the lynch pin in the Barnet defence while adding some glamour with his boy band looks.

GORDON FERRY

When this gentleman arrived at Underhill, players and supporters alike said "I can't believe we have signed Gordon Ferry!"

KENNY LOWE

We once had a player who was compared to Tottenham & England midfielder Glen Hoddle but to us Barnet supporters Glen Hoddle was actually the Kenny Lowe of the First Division.

LOOK BACK IN AMBER - THE WEST BANK

I have Celebrated, Laughed, Cheered, Cried, Swore, Fought, Hugged, Kissed, Ate, Drank and even Slept there. Do I miss it? You bet........the West Bank Underhill.

BARRY FRY

Chairman Stan Flashman allegedly sacked him 19 times, he cleared the pitch of frost on Christmas morning and paid the players wages from the fruit machines in the social club. The simple fact is that Barry made a few contributions towards our club’s history.....oh yeah and he got us promoted to the Football League.

LESTER FINCH & DENIS KELLEHER

Sadly there are going to be some players in these features, including some that literally dug the foundations of Barnet Football Club, who are not with us anymore but next in the spotlight are two gentlemen from days long past whose names are synonymous with the great history of our club

ROGER FIGG

The next in the spotlight is another goal machine from Underhill history in our Athenian and Southern League days

SEAN DEVINE

Next in the spotlight is a player who had power, speed and a superb instinct for a goal and was top scorer at Underhill for three consecutive seasons

SCOTT McGLEISH

A big favourite at Underhill who is still going strong after a career of some 23 years - and still somersaulting.

ANDREW CLARKE

The next in the spotlight is a superb athlete, discovered playing park football, who was simply a revelation in the GM Vauxhall Conference.

ALBERT ADOMAH

A talent, who wore the black and amber of Barnet FC for two and a half seasons and could light up a game in an instant.

DOUGIE FREEDMAN

In the spotlight is a Scot who made a massive impact at the club but in a very short space of time.

NICKY BAILEY

Next in the spotlight is a player who has gone on to play in the Championship for Charlton and Middlesbrough but it was Underhill that witnessed a wonderfully raw talent develop.

GARY BULL

Next in the spotlight a goal machine from our Conference winning days and early seasons as a Football League Club.

DAVID HOWELL

David Howell. Says Reckless, “As much as I despised Enfield FC (still do really) I still hungered for some of their numbers to play in amber and black, “Owsy” was always top of that list”

BILLY MEADOWS

In the spotlight is a gentleman who was the complete centre forward and in two seasons at Underhill in the 1960's simply scored goal after goal. He is also one of the funniest men you could ever wish to meet!

BEN EMBERY

In the spotlight is a player who is the perfect gentleman – a stalwart of great times at Underhill and another player who I proudly tell people I know personally.

PAUL WILSON

The next in the spotlight is a player who put back bone into the team and who played in almost every position during his twelve years at the club. He also proved the myth that you can have blood the colour of your club.

JOHN MARGERRISON

The next in the spotlight is a richly talented midfielder, oozing class with a great touch and vision – “What was he doing at Underhill on a pitch resembling Hackney Marshes then?” - BFC Captain Edwin Stein.

KEVIN MILLETT

In the spotlight is a central defender and club Captain who made close to 400 appearances for the club and was the ultimate Mr Reliable.

IAN HENDON

Every club has had a “Captain Fantastic” and ours was Ian Hendon!

GARY PHILLIPS

The next in the spotlight is a goalkeeper who is simply loved at Underhill. Legends are a subject that is always open to discussion and opinions, but there are some players who just are.

JASON PUNCHEON

In the spotlight is a player who came top in a recent pole on a supporters website as “Their Favourite Player of All Time”

EDWIN STEIN

In the spotlight is a gentleman who spent a full 10 years as a respected player, captain and manager at Underhill clocking up close to 500 appearances and scoring over 30 goals, Edwin Stein.

LES EASON

In the spotlight is someone who scored goals at Underhill in the 1960's and 70's with nonchalant ease and is the main reason for me changing my allegiance from Finchley FC to Barnet FC as wee lad and I am very proud to say that over the last ten years we have become firm friends. Therefore I make no apologies for this article being ornamented with personal admiration for a certain Leslie Eason.

GIULIANO GRAZIOLI

In the spotlight is a local lad who became a goal-scoring machine in amber and black.

LEE HARRISON

In the spotlight is a goalkeeper who I can state without fear of contradiction is the favourite Barnet player of all time of literately hundreds of Bees supporters and a gentleman who I am privileged to call a close friend”.
